The "simple search" begins on the homepage and is as the name promises: simple & fast.

There are two search fields:

• "Where?" - Where are you looking for a hospital? You can enter a postcode, a place name or directly the name or part of a hospital name.
• "What?" - If you are looking for a hospital that treats certain diseases or carries out certain treatments, you can search for them specifically. You can also search for specific departments or features.

The search within a search field is a so-called "OR" search. Hospitals are found that match at least one of the keywords searched for if several terms are entered.

The two search fields Where? and what? are AND searches (therefore there are two search fields): Enter e.g. at "Where?" the city of Berlin and at "What?" the search word tinnitus, then hospitals are searched in Berlin that treat the tinnitus.

Tip: If you are looking for a fixed compound term, put quotation marks around the multi-word term. Example: "breast cancer"

With "body navigation", an interactive body graphic makes it easier for you to find the right hospital that treats certain diseases or carries out treatments.

With the body graphic you look into the body to the individual organs and the skeleton, so to speak. Move the mouse over the body and the individual body regions are shown in color. For mobile devices that do not have a mouse pointer, click on the individual organs / body regions so that they are displayed.

A box automatically appears for each selected organ, which often lists diseases or treatments related to this organ. If you click on one of the links in the box, hospitals that treat the relevant disease or carry out the selected treatment are searched for directly.

By clicking on the smaller figures you can choose between man, woman and child, because some diseases / treatments are gender-specific.

Give it a try: Using body navigation is fun and by the way you can see exactly where the individual organs are in the body and what shape they are.

Tip: If the illness or treatment you are looking for is not listed in the box, then use the "Simple Search" on the start page or the "Advanced Search" and enter the search term directly.

Where? The same applies to body navigation - you should first determine in which region you are looking for a hospital by entering the postcode or location and selecting the search radius.

You would like to find a hospital with certain services & facilities features, but do not know exactly what these facilities, services or structural features are called in the "hospital language"? No problem, there is the structure search.

In the structure search, you are guided through the search process with clickable buttons. You can choose from these subject areas:

• Medical and nursing services
• Services & facilities
• Quality & hygiene
• Reports & feedback
• Outpatient services
• Accessibility

When searching with the map search, an interactive map of Germany (Google Maps) shows you where the hospitals are located with map pins.

The color of the pins shows you at a glance the size of the houses represented by the number of beds. Red pins mark the very large hospitals (from 1,000 beds), yellow pins smaller houses (up to 99 beds).

Click on a pin and you will see the name and address of the hospital. Click on the heading to go directly to the page of this hospital in the hospital directory with comprehensive information.

Tip: First enter the region in which you are looking for a hospital (post code or location) and your search radius, the map will then automatically adjust the scale. You can also change the zoom setting (scale) yourself with the plus and minus signs at the bottom left of the map and move the map section with the mouse pointer clicked on the map.

Departmental filter: You can filter the hospitals by department by clicking. Would you e.g. If you only see hospitals that have obstetrics at your holiday destination, then click on the "Obstetrics" checkbox. Six frequently searched specialist departments are displayed at a glance. You can select the entire list of specialist departments by clicking on "Show additional specialist departments".

You can also choose whether to display hospitals that have at least one of the specialist departments you have selected ("OR search"). However, if you want all selected specialist departments to be available (e.g. "General Surgery" and "Intensive Care Medicine"), then select "... all selected specialist departments" ("AND search").

With the district search you can search for hospitals in a specific district of Berlin.

As soon as you have selected the desired district on the interactive Berlin map or the clickable district selection, the hospitals in this part of the city will be displayed (in the selected radius).

The "barrier-free search" is especially for users of the hospital directory with limited eyesight and for the blind.

The barrier-free search is optimized for use with a screen reader. The texts are designed to be read aloud. The areas are provided with marked headings so that the screen reader can easily jump from one area to the next. Interactive elements such as drop-down menus and dynamic tool tips are dispensed with.

The search results page is designed without tables and presents the hospitals found in a readable text form. The names of the hospitals are marked as headings so that the screen reader can easily jump from one hospital to the next. Up to ten hospitals are listed on the first page, one click leads to the next ten hospitals.

Tip: The "barrier-free search" is designed for use with a screen reader. If, on the other hand, you want to search specifically for certain features and services of hospitals in the area of ​​accessibility, then use the "search for aspects of accessibility", which is only optimized for accessibility.

With the "search for aspects of accessability" you can search specifically for hospitals that offer certain services or features in the area of ​​accessibility.

For the search, either enter any term from the subject area of ​​accessibility in the free text search field and then click on the "Search" button or use the guided search. The guided search is particularly recommended if you do not know exactly how the aspects of accessibility are referred to in the "hospital language".

Guided search: For the guided search, first click on the "Accessibility" button and then make a selection from these topics:

Clicking on one of the buttons opens a selection with the associated aspects of accessibility. If you tick one or more aspects in the checkboxes and click on "Search", you will be shown the hospitals that offer these facilities and services in the area of ​​accessibility.

The search in the checkboxes works as a so-called AND search: A hospital must fulfill all selected aspects in order to be displayed in the search result. So if you check a lot of aspects, you will be shown less or no hospital that can fulfill all your wishes. In this case, enlarge if necessary. the search radius.

When searching for aspects of accessibility, you should also first specify the region in which you are looking for a hospital (zip code or city).
